Scottish Ale 60 Shilling #30

This is a really low alcohol session beer. I thought it might be a nice break from all the imperial stouts and holiday beers. Didn’t take any pics so enjoy the swallowtail caterpillar.

First 5 gallon batch I’ve done in awhile. I was a little low on Marris Otter malt, really low on yeast,

Dr. Scott's Coconut
Chocolate Stout #29

The Brewing Sculpture is not quite completed but it was time to brew. I temporally zip-tied the pump on and just used the cart to support the mash tun. Before I started brewing, I decided to use my immersion chiller as a heat exchanger...aka a Heat Exchange Recirculating Mash System (

Brewing Sculpture

I’ve finally decided that a brewing sculpture is in order. This epiphany occurred after switching to 10 gallon batches. It’s just too much hot liquid to be moving up and down to let gravity do it’s work. The plan is to take a metal cart purchased very cheaply from Harbor Freight and convert it to

Jamil's Amber-Red Ale 10g #28

First re-brew of a batch. Dad’s favorite. Re-worked the recipe to 10 gallons and lowered the bittering hops a little. It’s fermenting very nicely. Had to add blow-offs.

Bavarian Weizen #27

This Weizen recipe was featured on The Jamil Show. Should have brewed this a few weeks ago as the OVHA is serving beer at the SWIRCA Craft Brewer’s Festival August 19th and I don’t have anything ready.

Converted my other keg into a mash tun for this batch. Switched my system from batch

Josh's 10gal ESB #26

This was the first attempt at a 10 gallon batch. Ingredients we’re basically what was left over in the freezer plus a can of extract Josh won at the Big Brew. Had trouble with the Hopstopper again so this will be the last batch using it. Boiloff was higher than expected so we only got

Big Brew Summer Kölsch #25

The Ohio Valley Homebrewers Association gathered on a fine May day to participate in the national “Big Brew Day”. The recipes are chosen by the American Homebrewers Association. This year they were a Summer Kölsch and Poor Richard’s Ale. I did the all-grain summer Kölsch.

Jamil's Amber-Red Ale #24

Made a huge starer this time per Jamil’s instructions. That’s a one gallon jug sitting on the homemade stir plate.

SpeedWay Stout Clone #23

This will be a joint brew with fellow OVHA member Justin. This is a HUGE beer. Target OG is 1.115 for a 12% beer! Will be in primary and secondary for awhile.

Stir Plate Construction

Since I’m going through the trouble of making yeast starters now, I though it might be a good idea to try and get the maximum amount of yeast out of the starter. I’m getting an oxygen injection system soon, but I also wanted a laboratory magnetic stir plate to keep the yeast in constant
